Engineer's Week ("E-week")
Each year, the local engineering community holds the Engineers Week High School Student Banquet. Students are invited from Portland, Vancouver and Salem area high schools. Schools provide names of students whose interests and talents lend themselves to the field of engineering or are considering engineering careers. Each student is hosted by an engineer who has volunteered to attend the banquet. Each hosts pays a fee which covers their meall and that of the student. Hosts will be put in contact with their high school student(s) two weeks in advance of the event to facilitate day-of-the-event planning. Hosts are also provided with a useful “hosting” information kit. Click here for more information on E-Week 2007.
NWSE Science Fair Judging
IEEE Oregon Pre-College Actvities coordinates IEEE members to judge for the IEEE Special Awards at the NW Science Expo held at Portland State University. Judging and awards were given out to both High School and Mid School applicants.
To participate as an IEEE Special Awards Judge, contact John Vinson for instructions.
Judges devote most of a day to evaluating student work. First they examine written abstracts and display boards without students being present. Then they interview students - this is the heart of the process and the interaction between the professional judges and students is what makes NWSE special.
IEEE Special Awards include:
- Best in Engineering
- Communications Society Engineering
- Computer Software Engineering
- Computer Engineering
- EMC Society Engineering
- Power Engineering Society
- Systems, Man and Cybernetics
