Join us as Michael Scheinfein, P.h.D., Executive Vice President for Business Development and Chief Technology Officer of FEI, answers questions about venture capital and his experiences helping both entrepreneurs and investors.

About the Speaker: Michael Scheinfein received his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from MIT and his Doctorate in Applied Physics from Cornell University. For six years Dr. Scheinfein was an independent consultant, working at the juncture of technology and finance. He worked funding deals for startups and established firms, sometimes working on behalf of the technology companies, sometimes for the venture capital firms, sometimes for private equity and sometimes for investment banks.

Dr. Scheinfein is also an entrepreneur. For nearly fifteen his company, LLG Micromagnetics Simulator, has provided tools for scientists and engineers to solve problems in micromagnetic phenomenon. He knows the challenges of developing a product, marketing in the high-tech environment, and keeping on the good side of smart, demanding customers.

Prior to his work at FEI and as a consultant, Dr. Scheinfein held the tier-I NSERC Research Chair in Nanomagnetism/Physics at Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, BC and was Professor of Physics at Arizona State University in Tempe, AZ. His work at the National Institute of Standards and Technology helped generate the ideas that lead to the founding of his software company.

About the Speaker:

Brett Vinsant is a pioneering innovator in alternative/renewable energy. Brett founded QuantumLeap Technology which later became what today is known as ClearEdge power. Brett received a bachelors of science degree at Northern Arizona University. He continues to develop and innovate in the renewable energy field.
